Obituary of David P. Martin
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David P. Martin on Sunday, December 8th, 2024 after a short illness. Born to Robert and Hedwig Martin in Johnson City, NY, he was lovingly raised in a family where he learned the richness and importance of family, religion and kind-heartedness. David lived life fully radiating love and commitment to family and friends. David married his "bride" (as he never stopped referring to her) Mary Ellen Roberts in 1971. During their 53 years of marriage, they raised a son and a daughter, and thoroughly enjoyed the blessing of four beautiful grandchildren together. His family truly was the light of his life.
A proud and lifelong Binghamton native, David graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1966. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Manhattan College in 1970. After graduation, David served his country with great pride as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC, Camp Pendleton, CA, and Iwakuni, Japan. He had recently retired from Harris Assembly Group in Binghamton, NY where he was Vice President of Finance.
David is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Martin, son David P. Martin Jr., of Chester Springs, PA , daughter Christine Capogna (Michael) of Huntington, NY, grandchildren Sydney and Shane Martin, and Charlie and Teddy Capogna. He is also survived by a sister Hedy Martin and brother John Martin.
David and Mary Ellen truly enjoyed their life in the Binghamton area. He loved watching Villanova Basketball, playing golf, skiing at Greek Peak, and spending time with family and friends.
