David was a classmate of mine both at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School and Catholic Central High School, where we were members of the 1st Sophomore Class when the high school opened in 1963. We grew up in the same neighborhood. He lived on Penston Road one house from Westerly Way and I lived on Vine Street one block to the west. I remember playing at his house as a youngster, but mainly being in many of the same classes over the years. My brother, a year behind us in school, had the same name and middle initial, David P. Martin, and they were constantly confused through the years. I remember missing him at one of our reunions. Because he was local I had hoped to see him. He was always a great classmate and I never heard him say a mean word about another person. He treated everybody with respect which was not always the case back in our early years. I remember his brother and sister and to them and all the other members of the family I extend my sincere condolences.

We are very sad to hear of Dave’s death. We have not lived in Binghamton for 37years but he was a gentleman with a ready smile. May he rest in peace. God bless those left behind.
