William J. Hodnik | Visit Guest Book Hodnik, William J. Binghamton: William J. (Will) Hodnik of Binghamton passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 4 days shy of his 91st birthday, at Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary (Opeka) and Matthew Hodnik; brothers, Raymond and Matthew; and sister, Margaret Skarbez. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary (Ostanek) Hodnik; two sons, William J. and Colleen Hodnik of Reading, PA and David M. and Tina Hodnik of Binghamton; and a sister, Mildred Hodnik of Forest City, PA. He leaves behind four grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Kate, Molly, Brittney, and Matthew. Also surviving are his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Ruth Ostanek; along with several nephews and cousins. Will was born and raised in Forest City, PA. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII where he served with an attachment to a B-26 bomber squadron in England, France, and Belgium. Upon returning from service, he worked briefly as a "pillar robber" in the coal mines of northeast PA before joining Kost Brothers, where he drove tires between Forest City and Binghamton. After settling in Binghamton in the 50's, he became a proud member of Laborers Local 7 and was the second longest-standing member of the Union. He enjoyed many years of golf, gardening, and polka dancing. He will be sorely missed and loved forever. The family wishes to thank all of the administration and staff at Elizabeth Church Manor, especially the nurses and aides of the 3rd floor for the love, support, compassion, and dignity they showed to Will. A special thanks to Vicki and Joe Morabito for their help and support. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Friday from 7-9 p.m. Graveside services for family and friends will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Forest City, PA on Saturday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Elizabeth Church Manor, 863 Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
