Edward J. Race | Visit Guest Book Race, Edward J. Vestal: Edward J. Race, 73, of Vestal, died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012 at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Helen Race; his sister, Patricia Laskowsky; infant granddaughters Grace and Maryn Gaitley; and his aunt, Margaret Sweeney. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Ann Race, Vestal; his daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Joe Gaitley, VA, Jennifer and Travis Gilmore, Vestal; stepchildren, Robert Rauschmeier, Binghamton, Amy and Ryan Murphy, Johnson City; grandchildren, Lauren and Cecily Gaitley, Race Gilmore; step-grandchildren, Alex Rauschmeier, Brady and Connor Murphy; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was a retired Captain with the Binghamton Fire Department, retiring after 28 years of service. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the Sandy Pond Sportsman's Association. He loved cars, motorcycles, and playing a guitar. He was charter Captain of Fire Fish at Sodus Pt., NY and loved his time at 1 Kiblin Shores, Sandy Pond, NY. Ed made a friend wherever he went; he lived life to the fullest and his laugh will never be forgotten. "We love you, Cocktail Eddy!" A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A.
