Updike, John B. John B. Updike, 84 of Hillcrest, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 after a brief illness. He was predeceased in 2000 by his wife, Helen after almost 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his children David Updike and Lorna O'Connor, Dundalk, Ireland, John (Janet) Updike and Mark Updike, Binghamton and Susan (James) Haskell, Cicero, NY; his six grandchildren - Connor Updike, Binghamton and James, John, Michael, Max and Luke Haskell, Cicero, NY - who held a special place in his heart and brought him much joy. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law Elizabeth Budd, Appomattox, VA and Margaret Goodman, Binghamton, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hillcrest. He retired from Singer Link with more than 30 years of dedicated service. He was an avid Yankee fan who enjoyed nothing more than sitting on his porch listening to the games. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in John's memory to the following support group for families dealing with autism - FEAT of CNY, 51 Carousel Lane, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
