Obituary of Rev. Daniel G Murphy

Reverend Daniel G. Murphy | Visit Guest Book Murphy, Rev. Daniel G. Binghamton: Reverend Daniel G. Murphy, 81, a retired Priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, died Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2011 at the Susquehanna Nursing Center. Father Murphy was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Anna Duffy Murphy; his brothers, Edward and Joan Murphy, William and Liz Murphy; sisters, Madeline and Bob Alter, Teresa and Don James, Raymond and Kate Murphy; brother-in-law, James McGory. He is survived by his sister, Mary McGory, Binghamton; 23 nieces and nephews, 44 grand nieces and nephews and 16 great grand nieces and nephews; and his brother Priests at the Retirement Center. Father Murphy graduated from St. Patrick's Academy, St. Michael's College, Toronto University, Canada, St. Bonaventure University and Christ the King Seminary. He was ordained a Priest on May 19, 1956 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse by the Most Rev. Walter A. Foery, D.D. He was assistant pastor at St. Mary's Church, Cleveland, St. James Church, Johnson City, St. Ambrose Church, Endicott and Our Lady of Good Counsel, Endicott. Father Murphy was pastor of St. Mary's, Hamilton, St. Catherine of Siena Church, Hillcrest, and Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Windsor, from where he retired. He was Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Endicott Council, member of the CCD Executive Committee and Chaplain of Catholic Nurses Chapter. Father Murphy will be welcomed into St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Monday at 4 p.m. where he will Lie in State Monday from 4-7 p.m. A Vigil for a Deceased Priest will be held Monday at 7 p.m. A con-celebrated Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. by his fellow Priests and the Most Reverend Thomas J. Costello D.D. as principal Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnson City. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Father Murphy may be made to the Priests Retirement Home, 68 Seminary Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13905. Arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton.
