M. Arlene Shramek Endwell: M. Arlene Shramek, 101 years old, of Endwell, formerly of Hillcrest died Thursday morning, August 11, 2011 at the James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael T. Shramek and her son-in-law, James J. Hawley. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth and Alan Werle, Rochester, MN, Michael T. and Genevieve Shramek, Jr., Ft. Myers, FL, Barbara Hawley, Endwell; her grandchildren, Michael and Deborah Werle, Jerome and Donna Werle, Thomas and Anita Werle, Christopher Werle, Stephen and Colleen Werle all of Minnesota, Michelle and Michael Connors, Newburg, Tracey and James Stoll, Westwood, MA, Andrea and Jase Merrill. Cornwell on the Hudson, Beth and Michael Conolly, Pelham Manor, Kelly and Richard Burke, James and Molly Hawley, Kathleen and John Munley, Kevin Hawley and fiance Emily Rich, Kerry and Jeffrey VanAuken all of Endwell; 28 great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Ambrose Church, Endicott and a former member of St. Catherine's Church, Hillcrest and past president of the Altar-Rosary Society and member of the Over 50 club. She was a member of St. Ambrose Altar-Rosary Society and member of the Bible study group and over 50 club. Arlene was a retired library clerk for the Chenango Valley School District, retiring in 1971 and received the Pt. Dickinson-Hillcrest Community Service Award and was a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital. Words cannot express the gratitude we have in our hearts towards the J.G.J. Staff, Hilltop Campus for the love and compassion shown to our beloved Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother during her time there, especially in her final days. As matriarch of our family, Arlene always led by example. Through her 101 years of experience, she instilled in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the importance of faith, family and friendship. She embodied the spirit of Amazing Grace. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home,141 Main Street, Binghamton Monday at 9:15 a.m. and at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, Endicott where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Arlene may be made to Mother Teresa's Cupboard at St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
