Miller, Donald P. Maine: Donald P. Miller, of Maine, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, after a long illness. He was born July 28, 1921 in East Herkimer, NY, the son of William J. and Hannah (Bleaking) Miller. The family moved to Binghamton when he was fourteen, eventually settling on Laurel Avenue. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Torrey) Miller; his daughter, Kathleen C. Smith; his parents; a sister, Helen; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marie Miller; and his brother, William J. Miller, Jr. He designed, engineered and built a brick home in East Maine, where he raised his family. He is survived by his devoted children, Ann (Terry) Ulion of Glenmont, James (Suzanne) Miller of Binghamton, Joseph Miller of Johnson City, Theresa (Albert) Batten of Manlius, Christopher (Christine) Miller of Binghamton, Thomas (Michelle) Miller of Binghamton, and Richard (Leila) Miller of Upper Saddle River, NJ. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Joan Miller of Norwalk, CT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Academy, Binghamton, attended Alabama University and served in the US Marine Corps in WWII. He was employed by IBM for 38 years, beginning as a tool maker and retiring as the Superintendent of Printing. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, NY since 1954. He was a trustee of the parish, helping to build the current rectory and church. He was involved in many annual fundraising events and served on the committee that established the church's Oktoberfest. He had been a member of US Power Squadron and served on the Town of Maine Zoning Board of Appeals. He enjoyed reading, traveling, camping in the Adirondacks, and his family. His passion to design and build can be found throughout his property, including the stone barn built in retirement. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, whether it was fixing something old or building something new. He believed in education, ensuring that all of his eight children received a college education. A special thanks to Dr. Bhoomereddi, Linda, Nancy, Noraida, Shelly, and the other staff at Bridgewater Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for all of their care, kindness and support. A special thanks to Sister Hermenegilde for her skill, kindness, and ability to make him smile when visiting our Dad in both Lourdes and Bridgewater. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Most Holy Rosary Church, Rt. 26, Maine, Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Friday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Donald may be made to the American Cancer Society , 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or CHOW, 3 Otseningo St., Binghamton, NY 13903.
