Obituary of Francis Gerard Hughes

F. Gerard "Jerry" Hughes, 89, of Chenango Bridge, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his home. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Gallagher Hughes. He is survived by his children, Judith and Paul Watson, Salisbury, Mass., Carol and Richard Malloy, New Castle, N.H., Paul and Eileen Hughes, Selbyville, Del., Michael Hughes, Ithaca; three grandchildren, Maureen Malloy, Mary Ellen Malloy, Timothy Malloy; a brother, Thomas and Marie Hughes, Brick, N.J.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and John Cox, Josephine and William Gallagher, Eileen Gallagher; several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of St. Peter's College and an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #11062. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Hillcrest, and the Holy Name Society. Jerry retired as a supervisor from the Broome County Probation Department. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Binghamton Clef Club, Tri-Cities Opera Guild, and the Chenango Bridge Civic Association. He was an avid hockey fan, and enjoyed fishing and golf. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Thursday at 9 a.m., and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jerry may be made to the L.P.G. Scholarship Fund (for tuition assistance) c/o Seton Catholic Central High School, 70 Seminary Ave., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
