Ann Barrett Murphy, 98, of Binghamton, died Sunday morning, May 23, 2004, at her home. She was predeceased by her husband, Augustine "Gus" Murphy; her sisters, Catherine and Mary Barrett; her brothers, John, Joseph, Thomas, James and Raymond Barrett. She is survived by her children, Patty and Dick Nicholas, Glastonbury, Conn., Dorothy and John Gocella, W. Seneca, Don and Sue Murphy, Wappingers Falls, Dick Murphy, Binghamton; 12 grandchildren, Billy Nicholas, Maui, Hawaii, Timmy and Dorota Nicholas, Chicago, Ill., Katie and Jerry Tuttle, Colchester, Conn., Megan and Doug Bacon, W. Hartford Conn., Colleen Nicholas, Maui, Hawaii, Patti and Ray Zygaj, W. Seneca, Tony and Molly Gocella, Orchard Park, Rocky and Jenn Gocella, W. Seneca, Kerry and Chan Damon, Southhampton, Mass., Tim and Michelle Murphy, Poughkeepsie, Christine Murphy, Bridgewater, N.J. and Fiance, Chris Basso, Dan Murphy, Wappingers Falls; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Barrett. Ann was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Choconut, Pa. and then taught 5th grade at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School in Binghamton for over 20 years. She was a member of the N.Y.S. Retired Teachers Association. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Wednesday, at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, Pa. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ann may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, or any charitable organization.
