William J. Murphy, 85, died on Monday, December 29, 2003 at Rivermede Manor, where he had resided since 2002. He is survived by his brother, Rev. Daniel G. Murphy; two sisters and brother-in-law, Mary E. McGory, Teresa and Donald E. James, all of Binghamton; 23 nieces and nephews; 44 grandnieces and grandnephews; three great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and several cousins. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Kirkwood. Bill was born on May 15, 1918 in Binghamton, and was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth LaBarr Murphy, on March 8, 2002; father, Leo P. Murphy in 1976; mother, Anna (Duffy) Murphy in 1977; brothers, Raymond J. Murphy in 1980, and Edward L. Murphy in 1994; and sister, Madeline Alter in 1998. Bill worked as a farm hand on the Golan-Murphy dairy farm, drove trucks and worked in the warehouse for Crane's Plumbing Company, Binghamton, and was employed as a maintenance man at Susquehanna Valley High School, retiring in the early 1970's after 20 years of service. A Funeral Mass will be offered by his brother at St. Mary's Church, Kirkwood, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m.
