Obituary of James J. Case

James J. Case, 78, of Vestal, died Thursday afternoon, December 18, 2003, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Madeleine Burns Case, Vestal; his daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen and Leonard Gelosa, Cedar Knolls, N.J., Sharon and George Coddington, Amherst, N.H., Anne Case and Angus Deaton, Princeton, N.J., Susan Case, McLean, Va.; grandchildren, Meghan, Theresa and Emily Coddington, Robert Gelosa; a brother, John and Kathleen Case, Pt. Dickinson; his sisters, Mary Lehmann, Binghamton, Elizabeth and Michael Reynolds, Clifton Park; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton and it's choir. James Joseph Case was born to James Joseph and Helen Enright Case on November 16, 1925, the second child born in Lourdes Hospital. He attended St. Patrick's Academy and graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1943. He matriculated at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and joined the U.S. Army later that year. He was a staff sergeant in the 84th infantry division, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and after the war, served in the Military Police in Berlin. He returned to RPI and graduated in 1950. Jim was an engineer and project manager at New York State Electric and Gas Co. for thirty-five years, retiring in 1987. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Augustines Cemetery, Silver Lake, Pa., in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jim may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
