Obituary of Joseph T. Leahey

Joseph T. Leahey, 55, at home and with family, died on December 17, 2003 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary Leahey; and brothers, Phil and Jim. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Madelaine, a son, James, a daughter, Anne Marie, and devoted dog, Rudi, all at home; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and JoAnne Leahey, Fla.; sister-in-law and nephew, Wendy and Jordan Koslan (fiance Larry Routhenstein), Fla.; aunts, uncles, cousins and his "family of friends". Joe was a member of I.B.E.W. Local Union 1249 as a Journeyman Lineman for 37 years, most recently as Assistant Business Manager. He was a U.S. Army veteran with a tour of duty in Vietnam and a member of American Legion Post 1227. Joe was highly regarded in his trade, admired and deeply respected, both professionally and personally, as a man of great honor and integrity. He and his family have been most grateful for the skill and care of Dr. Readling and his staff; Mary Guilfoyle, his Hospice nurse; and especially his family, friends and co-workers whose prayers, love and support were an immeasurable source of strength and comfort. Joe felt his greatest treasures were his family and friends, and left this life a rich man indeed. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton on Saturday at 12 noon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Those wishing to contribute stories, memories and/or photos of Joe for a memory book of their dad for his children may send them to the family, care of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Joe may be made to the Hospice program, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, or any charitable organization.
