Phyllis Emerson Murphy, 73, of Endwell, surrounded by her loving family and friends, returned to our Lord on October 23, 2003, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Joseph T. Murphy Sr.; her parents, Victor and Gertrude Emerson. She is survived by her children, Joseph T. and Pamela Murphy Jr., Worcester, Mass., Robert and Danette Murphy, Rockdale, Mass., Mary Kathleen Murphy, Exeter, N.H.; her grandchildren, Amanda, McKayla, Meghan, Molly Rose and Emerson James; her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Kenneth Wertz, Endwell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Ramsay, Theresa and George Anthony, Marilyn and Lou Hudy, Arlene and Thomas Longcoy, and Jeanne Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was a founding and active member of Our Lady of Angels Church, Endwell, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Nazareth Marian Center. She was active in the soup kitchen, participated in Perpetual Adoration, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Phyllis grew up in Waverly, N.Y., graduated from Waverly High School in 1947, and graduated from the First Class of Broome Community College in 1949. She devoted her career to the medical field and retired from Lourdes Hospital. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a dedicated friend. All who knew Phyllis knew her life was one of faith and prayer. With affection and love, we will remember the Christian example our mother left. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 9:15 a.m., and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, Pa. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Phyllis may be made to Lourdes Hospital Foundation, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
