James M. Murphy, 81, of Little Meadows, Pa., died Monday morning, August 4, 2003 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Murphy and his sisters, Anna Hanagan and Helen Depsey. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Phalen Murphy, Little Meadows; his children, Timothy and Cheryl Murphy, Elmira, James and Karen Murphy, Liverpool, Loretta and Tom Bassett, Orlando, Fla., Daniel Murphy, Little Meadows, Marty and Tina Murphy, Apalachin, Thomas Murphy, Little Meadows, Patrick and Gail Murphy, Nichols; 12 grandchildren, Michael and Claire Bassett, Colin, Ryan, Megan, Joseph, Kathleen, Neal, Brian, Matthew, Tyler and Kylie Murphy; brother, Gerald and Ruth Murphy, Little Meadows; sister, Mary and William Barno, Little Meadows; aunt, Catherine Mc Hugh; brothers-in-law, William Dempsey, Robert Hanagan, Binghamton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Little Meadows, Pa. He was a retired farmer, retired rural mail carrier and school director for the Montrose Area Schools for 28 years. Jim was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening, working on the farm and helping others. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. Mc Cormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Thursday at 9 a.m. and at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, Little Meadows. The family will recieve friends at the Mc Cormack Funeral Home, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Jim may be made to the Little Meadowsrescue Squad, Little Meadows, Pa. 18830.
