Obituary of Josephine Leone

Josephine Leone, 95, of Binghamton, went to sleep peacefully in the arms of the Lord surrounded by her family, at home on Thursday, February 13, 2003. Josephine was born in Rocchetta, Italy on October 5, 1907 and emigrated from there to Binghamton on May 29, 1920. She was predeceased by her parents, Michele and Leonarda Errichiello Marano; her devoted husband, Achille Leone; her precious son, Michael Leone (2/14/57); a special granddaughter, Sara Anne Leone; her brothers, Frank, Tony and Michele Marano; a sister, Mary Brigham; and son-in-law, Ben Mintz. She is survived by two sons, Frank Leone (Edith) and Enrico Leone (Carolee); two daughters, Lena Leone and Millie Mintz; a sister-in-law, Anna Marano; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Binghamton. Josephine enjoyed traveling throughout Canada and Europe making pilgrimages to various shrines, including Fatima, Portugal and Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. She visited her native Italy several times, keeping in contact with her numerous relatives in Italy, throughout her life. The family would like to thank the Hospice staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for the care and kindness extended to our mother, Josephine, during her illness. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 9 a.m., and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider spiritual bouquets or memorial donations to Hospice, c/o Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
