Obituary of Joseph F. Veninsky

Joseph Frank Veninsky, 88, of Binghamton, died Thursday afternoon, January 20, 2005, at The Waters of Endicott. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Wood; a brother, Edward; and a sister, Anne. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bujake Veninsky; a sister, Rose Burnett; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Elaine Veninsky, Binghamton, Gerard and Donna Veninsky, Richford, Edward Veninsky, Binghamton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Young and Daniel Paddick, Binghamton, Cindy and John Barden, Buffalo, Constance and Peter Lux, Buffalo; son-in-law, Kevin and Betty Wood, Iowa City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; friends, especially brother-in-law, George Bujake, Jack and Shirley Megivern. He was born and raised in Carbondale, Pa., son of a coal miner. During the Depression he worked in the mines. He married Dorothy and moved to Binghamton to work at Ansco and GAF. Joe was a combat veteran of World War II in the 101st Engineer Combat Battalion as a Demolition Specialist. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He received the Bronze Star for Bravery, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for Wounds received in combat. Joe was an avid swimmer, fisherman and hunter. He retired in 1981 from GAF after 41 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 80 and V.F.W. Post 2332. The family thanks the staff of Waters of Endicott for their care and concern shown to Joe, especially Carla. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Joe may be made to the Danielle House 160 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
