Gerald J. Murphy, 77, of Little Meadows, Pa., died Monday, December 20, 2004, at his home after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Murphy; his sisters, Helen Dempsey and Anna Hanagan; and his brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Hammerly Murphy, Little Meadows; his children, Louise and Edgar Baker, Charles and Susan Murphy, Mary and David Seitenback, William and Laura Murphy, Joanne and Jim Arey, Robert and Rebecca Murphy, John and Marilee Murphy, Nancy and Wallis Espe; 12 grandchildren, TJ, Shelby, Sean, Jimmy Josh, Janet, Nicholas, Jack, Anthony, Erica, Sam, Sarah; sister and brothers-in-law, Mary and William Barno, William Dempsy; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Little Meadows, Pa., and the Holy Name Society. Gerald was a retired rural mail carrier and self-employed general contractor. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Little Meadows, Pa., Thursday at 10 a.m. The burial will be in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Gerald may be made to Little Meadows Rescue Squad, Little Meadows, Pa. 18830, or St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
