James

E. "Smitty" Smith, 54 formerly of Indiana died Saturday morning,

November 18, 2000 at the home of his sister. He was predeceased by his

daughter, Shelby Rae Smith and his parents, Eugene and C. Jane Smith; his

brother, John Patrick Smith. He is survived by his son, Sean Knight, Vt.; a

brother and sister-in-law, Eugene F. and Evelyn Smith, Milan, Pa.; a sister and

brother-in-law, Marilyn and Thomas Gourley, Binghamton; sister-in-law, Ruth

Smith, Binghamton; several aunts and uncles including a special uncle, Karl

Loftstrum and a very special friend, Greg Hurst, Indiana; several nieces,

nephews, great nieces and nephew. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam

Conflict serving on the U.S.S. Forestal. A volunteer Firefighter for 15 years,

in Avon. A member of American Legion Post 0331, Brownsburg, Indiana and a

D.A.V. Chapter 15, Goshen, Ind. He retired from the Heating, Ventilating and

Air Conditioning Profession in Indiana. He was a friend to all and was

constantly giving of himself.

Funeral

services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St.,

Binghamton, Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and at 1 p.m. at St. John The Evangelist

Church, Binghamton, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in

Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McCormack

Funeral Home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of James
