Obituary of Alice Jean Peters

Alice Jean Lewis Peters, 77, of
Binghamton and Henderson, N.Y., died Friday morning, October 25, 2002, at
Elizabeth Church Manor, after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 26,
1925, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and grew up in Quebec City, Canada. She was
predeceased by her parents, Alice and Charles Lewis; and her husband of 44
years, Dr. Lloyd C. Peters. Alice is survived by her son and daughter-in-law,
David and JoEllen Smith Peters, Fayetteville, N.Y., and their children, David
and Alicia; her daughter and son-in-law, Alison and John Goss, Jamesville, and
their children, Peter and Adam; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Stephen
Damtoft, Irondiquoit, and their children, Dana, Lindsay, Bradley, and Andrew;
her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Gayle Peters, Town of Chenango, and their
children, Hillory, San Diego, Calif., and Tricia, Hamilton, N.Y. She was an
active member of Ross Memorial Presbyterian Church, Binghamton. Alice graduated
from Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, Quebec, and worked as a registered
nurse for many years. She went back to study in the 1970's, and continued her
studies at Skidmore College. Her fondest memories of working in the nursing
profession were the years she taught nursing at Binghamton General Hospital.
During the last few years, she was fortunate to receive a high level of quality
care from some of her former students at Elizabeth Church Manor, who remembered
her fondly. She loved to play tennis, swim, and spend time on the shores of
Lake Ontario with her many friends from northern N.Y. Funeral services will be
held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday,
at 10 a.m. Rev. Ronald B. Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Henderson, N.Y., with graveside services Monday, at 2 p.m. The family
will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. In
lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Alice may be made to Ross
Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6 Morris St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903,or Chow c/o
Broome County Council of Churches, 3 Otseningo St., Binghamton N.Y. 13903.
