Walter J. Farrell, M.D., 74, of

Binghamton, died peacefully at home on his Birthday August 8, 2002, surrounded

by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia; and his

children, Walter and Tracey Farrell, Horseheads, David S. Farrell, Newport

News, Va., Susan and Stephen Bellingham, Binghamton, Daniel M. Farrell and

Thomas J. Green, New Hope, Pa., James and Susan Farrell, Binghamton, Elizabeth

A. Farrell, Binghamton, Matthew and Susan Farrell, Endwell; his grandchildren,

Christopher and Megan Bellingham, Matthew P. Farrell, Austin, Luke and Haleigh

Farrell, Daniel and Kelly Farrell, Kristen and Laura Farrell. He was

predeceased by his parents, Dr. Walter and Hilda Farrell, and his sister, Jane

H. Sullivan. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth

and John Mac Blane, Liverpool, Maureen and Ben Muggeo, Lansing, Dr. Richard

Sullivan, Vestal; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Martha Farrell,

Endicott; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Howard Smith, Haines

City, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends. Dr.

Farrell was born and raised in Johnson City; graduated from Mt. St. Mary's

College, Emmitsburg, Md. and New York Medical College, Valhalla. He did his

internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charles E. Wilson

Memorial Hospital. He served in the U.S. Navy and headed the Obstetric and

Gynecology program at Chincoteague Naval Air Station. Dr. Farrell established

his practice in Johnson City, building a professional building with his cousin

and dearest friend, Jerome T. Farrell, D.D.S. He loved his patients and they in

turn loved him. He was a member of A.M.A., N.Y. State and Broome County Medical

Society. Dr. Farrell was a founding member of St. Vincent De Paul Church,

Vestal and was one of it's first trustees. He served on the building committee

and was active with the C.Y.O. and sang in the choir. He was presently a member

of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton. He was a member of Geneganslet Lake

Association where he owned a cottage and spent some of his happiest moments

with the family. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, Monday

at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will

receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street,

Binghamton, Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dr.

Farrell may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy Street,

Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
