Richard D. Gilbert Obituary

Richard D. Gilbert, 82, of Binghamton,

fell asleep with his Lord, Saturday, August 17, 2002. He was predeceased by his

wife, Doris Gilbert; a son, Donald E. Gilbert; his parents, Nathan Gilbert and

Bessie Griffin; and a brother, Gordon Gilbert. Dick is survived by his sons,

Jerry, Ted, Neal and fiance, Karen George, Randall and wife, Mary, and Ronald

Gilbert; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Dick is also survived by

his brother, Emerson Gilbert and wife, Iona; a brother-in-law, Donald Minturn;

numerous nieces and nephews; and by a dear friend, Lee Ball. Dick was a World

War II Army Veteran having been wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He

graduated from Ridley Lowell School of Business and was retired from Auto

Finisher's Supply. He worked after retirement for the Broome County Sheriff's

Office through Office for the Aging. Dick enjoyed camping, Indy and NASCAR

racing and was a rabid Dale Earnhardt fan. Funeral services will be held

Wednesday at 12 noon at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St.,

Binghamton. Rev. Ken McIntosh, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in

Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McCormack

Funeral Home, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
