Byron I. "Barney" Giblin, 75, of Binghamton, died Thursday morning, October 17, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence F. and Kathryn Keenan Giblin; an infant brother, Kenneth; and an infant son, David Giblin. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen (Hawley) Giblin; his children, Jo Anne Giblin and husband Ronald Schiesser, Daniel and Susan Giblin, Martin Giblin and Laura Wells; his grandchildren, Colleen and Mike Giblin, Gregory and Abby Schiesser; his brother, Rev. Msgr. Lawrence E. Giblin; sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Joseph Hickey; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Barbara and James Hawley, Edward Hawley; several nieces and nephews. Barney was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, a retired letter carrier for the US Post Office in Binghamton with over 35 years of service. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Academy, Class of 1945, and attended Kings College, Wilkes Barre, Pa., a member of N.A.R.F. and National Association of Letter Carriers. Byron was a veteran of the US Navy. A Funeral Mass will be offered by his brother at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, Pa. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Barney may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
