Obituary of Erwin W. Thurber

Erwin W. Thurber, 86, of Conklin, died Thursday morning, May 31, 2001 at the waters of Endicott. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Thurber; and two sisters, Nellie Williams and Mary Fernald. He is survived by three children, Sue and Dan Frair, Port Crane, Jack and Sandy Thurber, York, Pa., Mary and Brian Jones, Doylestown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; a sister and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Bud Fernald and Stan Fernald. He was a member and elder of the Conklin Presbyterian Church, Conklin. A retired employee of the IBM Corporation, retiring in 1971 and a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Erwin was also a Navy Veteran. In his retirement he visited many people in hospitals and nursing homes. He was a devoted family man and friend to all. The family extends a warm "thank you" to the Garden Park staff at the waters of Endicott for their kind and compassionate care. Memorial services will be held at the Conklin Presbyterian Church, 1175 Conklin Rd., Conklin, Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Stephen W. Starzer, pastor, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Harpursville, N.Y. with graveside services Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Erwin may be made to the Conklin Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 151, Conklin, N.Y. 13748. Arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, N.Y.
