James
J. Curtin, 60, of Binghamton, died Sunday evening, April 22, 2001, at his home
after an illness. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Dorothy Curtin;
and his sister, Terese Kudriavetz. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Croop
Curtin, Binghamton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Curtin,
Carrollton, Tex., Carrie Anne and Gary George, Midland, Tex., Jacqueline Nicole
and Matthew Muller, Corinth, Tex.; step daughters, Veronica and Henry Gober,
Glen Aubrey, Tammy and Bruce Avery, Raleigh, N.C., Karen Mapes-Smith, Melissa
Yager, both of Binghamton; 11 grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary
and Thomas Klotz, Elmira; brother, Charles Curtin, Ohio. He was a graduate of
Binghamton Central High School Class of 1959 and Niagara University in 1963. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam, attaining the rank of
captain; taught school at Jennie F. Snapp School in Endicott for three years.
Jim was a New York State Trooper retiring as Zone Sergeant for Troop C in 1997.
After retirement he was a Welfare Fraud Investigator for Tioga County for 2 1/2
years. He was a Basketball Official for 21 years and a member of the Southern
Tier Board for 49 and also a Baseball Umpire and President of Binghamton
Umpires Association for three years. Funeral services will be held at the J.A.
McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141, Main St., Binghamton, Thursday at 9 a.m. and
at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, Johnson City, where a Funeral Mass will be
offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will
receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
