Ruth
Walsh O'Brien 100 years old, of Binghamton, went to be with her Lord Tuesday,
March 27, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick M. O'Brien, and
is survived by four nephews, Michael J. Walsh, Daniel and Shirley Walsh,
Binghamton, Edward J. and Pattie Walsh, Sioux City, Iowa, William J. and Barbara
Walsh, Las Vegas, Nev.; three nieces, Mary Catherine Walsh, Binghamton, Ellen
and Joseph McManus, Columbus, Ohio, Nancy Maggio, New Port Ritchey, Fla.;
several great-nieces, great-nephews, and a few special great-great-nieces and
nephews. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church,
Binghamton, member of the Altar-Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of
America Court Binghamton #237. She worked in the War Department in Washington
during World War I and for 40 years at the Binghamton Sun and Sun-Bulletin, the
last 10 years as Classified Advertising Manager. Ruth was a resident of Good
Shepherd-Fairview Home and was an active participant in Club 80, Bridge
Players. She won many awards in the Sunshine Olympics, was past Secretary of the
Residence Council, and newly elected member of the Residence Council. She was
born April 18, 1900. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons
Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Saturday at 8:30 a.m., and at 9 a.m. at
St. John the Evangelist Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial
will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at
the McCormack Funeral Home Friday, from 3 to 6 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in
memory of Ruth may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church Building Fund,
