George

L. Rood, 77, of Binghamton, died Wednesday morning, February 14, 2001, at River

Mede Manor. He was predeceased by his parents, George E. and Eva Ellsworth

Rood; and his uncles, Robert, Herbert and Earl Rood. He is survived by his wife

of 49 years, Margaret (Clegg) Rood, Binghamton; a daughter, Lori J. Dadamio,

Monroe; a son and daughter-in-law, George M. and Cheryl Rood, Binghamton, and

their daughter, April Benedict; grandchildren, Natalie and Angelo Dadamio;

sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn Clegg Pitarra and Joseph Pitarra,

Endicott; brothers-in-law, Thomas S. Clegg, Melbourne, Fla., William S. and

Malu Clegg, Puerto Rico, Gordon "Butch" and Joyce Clegg, Endicott;

sister-in-law, Phyllis Rano Clegg. He was a member of the Fairview United

Methodist Church, Binghamton, retired 38 year employee of the General Electric

Corp. in Westover; member of the G.E.A.A. for many years. George loved sports,

having played softball as a youth for the Binghamton Press. He attended every

single game at Johnson Field, home of the Triplets, from the first game to the

last. He also played golf for many years and was an avid bowler. After

retirement, he became involved in collecting sports cards of all kinds,

especially baseball. He loved setting up his merchandise at Jimay's Flea Market

for 14 years, becoming known as the "Baseball Man". His favorite team

all his life was the Cardinals, but he also rooted for the Yankees and Mets. He

held season tickets for all the hockey games at the Broome County Arena,

starting with the Dusters. George, "You broke even". Funeral and

interment services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141

Main St., Binghamton, Friday, at 1 p.m. Rev. Paul W. Towers, his pastor, will

officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will

receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of George may be made to the American Heart

Association, 59 Court St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13902, or any charitable

organization.
