Obituary of Elsa E. Bode

Elsa E. Bode, 70, of Johnson City, died Saturday morning, December 16, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Rudolf and Elsie Bode, and her sister, Mary Bode. She is survived by her brothers and sister-in-law, Rudolf Bode, Jr., Binghamton, Robert and Judy Bode, Windsor; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and David Thomas, Endicott; her special friend and adopted sister, Florine Soltis; her nieces and nephews, Loraine Bode, Debbie and Brian Galazyn, Karl Bode, David and Nancy Thomas, Dawn and Brian Batson, Timothy Thomas; several cousins in the U.S. and Germany; her feline friends, "Mimi and Fritz". Elsa was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton where she was a lector and Eucharistic Minister and was involved with the Better World Prayer Group. Elsa graduated from Deposit High School, and Oneonta State Teachers College. She taught second and fourth grades in Long Island for 13 years and then worked in various capacities. Elsa was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed attending all the varieties of theatre available in this area, especially the Tri-Cities Opera and Cider Mill Playhouse. She was an avid reader of mysteries and was never happier than when cooking for her family, friends, and co-workers at Broome County Social Services. Elsa was devoted to her faith and her church. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday, at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery, Ouaquaga. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Elsa, may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
