Obituary of Leo Douglas “Turk” Simonds

Leo Douglas
Turk Simonds, 68, of Binghamton, passed away Thursday morning, November 23,
2000 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after a courageous battle with
cancer. He was predeceased by his
parents, Leo and Elsie Simonds, and Chester and Hattie Thompson; and his
daughter, Patty Ann Simonds. He is survived
by his former wife, Shirley Simonds Brand; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Lynne and Lawrence Foster, Annette and Thomas Sosenko, Renne and Stephen
Sobiech; a son, Dennis Simonds; and Ms. Anne Marie Pagano; eight grandchildren,
Erica Foster, Melissa, Nicole and Julie Sosenko, Dennis Jr.; Kyle Simonds,
Stephanie and Renee Sobiech; his brothers and sisters, Mable and William
Buchanan, Lula Simonds, Mayetta Beach, Herbert and Dorothy Simonds; Charles
Simonds and Clair Herig; several half-sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews and
cousins. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
the Korean Conflict serving in the 101st Airborne, Ft. Campbell,
KY. Leo enjoyed his career as a
cook. He loved fishing, gardening, and
the company of his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Lourdes
Hospice Program and to the staff of Lourdes Hospital, 1 Ross, for their loving
care and support.
Funeral services
will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton,
Monday at 1 p.m. Rev. David C. Seaver,
Chaplain of Pastoral Care at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, will officiate. Burial will be in the Chenango Valley
Cemetery, Hillcrest. The family will
receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Memory of Leo may
be made to the Hospice Program, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside
Dr. Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
