Obituary of Joseph Coco

Joseph Coco, 88, of Binghamton, died peacefully Sunday, September 9, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace Coco, Binghamton; his sons, Dick Coco and Kate Clair, Binghamton, and grandson Geoffrey, Seattle, Wash., Ken and Nancy Coco, Nashville, Ill., Robert Coco and Carolyn Eaton, Oswego and granddaughter Jamie Cianfarano, Syracuse. He was a a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton. Joe spent his early years in East Rochester, N.Y. After graduating from the University of Rochester, he taught mathematics and became head of the Math Department at Marion Central School, Marion, N.Y. Following his retirement, he served as the Marion Town Supervisor for six years. He then volunteered for 12 years with AARP on the state level. In 1991, he and Grace moved to Binghamton after residing in Marion for 54 years, where they enjoyed meeting new friends. Joe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed many hours playing tennis, golf and pool. He was also a talented musician and for many years played piano with dance bands as well as singing with the Barbershop Chorus of Gesesee. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m., and at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joe may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, or the Hospice Program, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
