James M. Pomeroy, Sr., 65, of Vestal died peacefully Saturday morning, February 23, 2002 at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center. He was predeceased by his father, Martin Earl Pomeroy; and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Pomeroy, Vestal; his children, Pat Pomeroy, Vestal, Mary and Randy Slifer, Waverly, James and Joanne Pomeroy, York, Pa., Karen Witbeck, Harpursville, Joseph and Lisa Pomeroy, Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Eileen, Randy, Molly, Sarah, Julie, Danny, Adam, Amanda; his mother, Anne Pomeroy, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brothers and sisters, Elaine Impero, Vestal, Katie and Bill Hanifin, Myrtle Beach, S.C., John and Julie Pomeroy, Gouldsboro, Pa., Maureen and Gary Kippe, Bloomfield, Mich., Martin and Marilu Pomeroy, Wenham, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal, for 36 years; Past President of the Parish Council; and served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at the church. He was a member of the Vestal Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Edgar Houlihan Council #4746; former member of the Endicott Rotary Club and a member of Save the World Pantheon Breakfast Club. He was a graduate of Le Moyne College in 1958 and was a retired Financial Advisor at First Union Securities and supported many community organizations. "May all who pass be surrounded by as much love as Jim was." A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal, Tuesday at 12 noon. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jim may be made to Hospital Ministry, c/o Broome County Council of Church's, 3 Otsiningo St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.
