Nowakowski, Sr., Edward F. SSGT Edward F. Nowakowski, Sr. USMC Ret. 85 of Conklin died Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Beverly Nowakowski; his parents, Vincent and Sophie Nowakowski; his brother, Joseph; and his dog, "Ginger." He is survived by his children, his loving caregivers, Edward and Yvonne Nowakowski, Jr. Binghamton, Michael Nowakowski, CA., Katherine and Frank Gross, Binghamton; grandchildren, Matthew and Katelyn, Erica, Adam, Andrew, Nicholas Nowakowski, Kyle Guinan; great-granddaughter, Autumn Piester; and his furry pals, Abby, RB and Mickey; many brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews, especially Maryjane and LCDR Gary Dundon, U.S. Navy Ret. Who opened their home and cared for him last summer on his last visit to CA. You always held a very special place in his heart. He was a member of All Saints National Catholic Church, Johnson City and XMS of R. Ed served in the U.S. Marines from 1947 to 1967 and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Binghamton after 22 years and worked at Binghamton University in the Mail Room. He was an avid bowler and Pittsburgh Sports fan and enjoyed watching his Pirates, Steelers and Penguins play. Most of all he was a tried and true Marine. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wilson NT2 and NT3 for their care and compassion the past four months. They say old soldiers never die, they just fade away. Though your journey here on Earth has ended, your spirit and resolve will forever live in our hearts. This is not goodbye, but until we meet again in God's Kingdom! SEMPER FI! Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Wednesday at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at All Saints National Catholic Church, 42 Harry L. Drive, Johnson City. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Ed may be made to the All Saints National Catholic Church Building Fund or the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation in support of the National Museum of the Marine Corps. All Saints Men Society will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
