Obituary of Donald F. Fallon

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald "Red" Fallon died peacefully at home with his family on March 22, 2015 at the age of 76. Donny leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary; daughters, Ann and Teri, and the apple of his eye, his grandchildren, Airec, Maxine and Jordyn; his baby brother, Jerome, aka "Spike", and many nieces and nephews. We all knew him as the best joke teller in Binghamton. When you saw Donny out and about on the Westside or Downtown, where he worked and lived his entire life, a smile tugged at your cheeks because there was a joke or a wise crack coming your way. He never saw the need for a driver's license. Friends of his daughters would post "Donny Sightings" pics on Facebook of him walking to the grocery store, going to the YMCA, or one of his many bartending gigs. Donny was Binghamton's favorite bartender for decades, the folks at Tom & Marty's are like family to Mary and Donny. He was chauffeured around town for 38 years as a surveyor with the City of Binghamton. He believed the passenger side rearview mirror was for the passenger to use, adjusting it to his liking. Nearly every day for decades he'd walk to the YMCA, where he worked as the director of membership in the 60's, to play handball. In more recent years he cherished getting together with his handball pals for coffee and monthly dinners. Donny had mad skills playing CYO basketball while growing up on Florence Ave. and in the St. Patrick's congregation. He was a sports fanatic, with a deep fondness for the Yankees. Donny's pockets were full of candies to give to the Vietnamese kids that called him "Mr. Donny" while he walked Mayflower, the Boston Terrier, on Arthur St., where he lived for the last 40 years. His antics are legendary to the men with whom Donny proudly served his country with as a telephone operator in Korea. Donny was happiest when at the beach in Cape May with his friends and family. We always say nice things about other folks when they pass. People have been saying nice things about Donny for 76 years, he was genuinely the kindest, funniest, hardest working Irishmen around. It was Donny's wish to be cremated, and in an eternal effort to not be a bother to anyone, he requested not to have any funeral services. So raise a glass and make a toast to Donny, then tell some jokes and laugh. Mary would like to thank the providers at Cardiology Associates for their loving care, especially Kristin Lewis and Dr. DiMenna, as well as Donny's primary, Dr. Jimenez.
