Obituary of Marie D. Nelson

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie D. (Pianella) Nelson, 61, was called home to eternal rest on Sunday, January 11, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She has been received at heaven's gate by her predeceased son, Tommy; her parents, Catherine and Joseph Pianella; and loved ones who went before her. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 20 years, Gary Nelson; the lights of her life, daughters Heather Cramer and Jessica Cramer-Isaacs; her beloved son in law, Greg Isaacs; and the smiles of her heart, granddaughters Ariana and Amelia Isaacs; step-children and their families, Michelle Herceg and Doug Nelson; siblings, Frances and husband Senator Thomas Libous, Nicholas and wife Carolyn Pianella, Kathleen and husband Robert Kraeger and Lucy Matrassi; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and lifelong friends especially Dawn and Pat Lasher. Marie was born on December 11, 1953 to her loving parents Catherine and Joseph Pianella in Oriskany, NY. She grew up in Oriskany and relocated to Binghamton, NY and began her career at Putnam Publishing Group and then advanced on to Anitec where she worked for many years until leaving to become an entrepreneur to pursue her passion and calling in life which was caring for children. As a result My Time Daycare opened in 1995 and the lasting impact and love she had for each and every child she cared for through the years has left an imprint that one can never erase. Marie truly loved each child that she cared for and treated each one of them as if they were her own. They will all have a special place in our heart forever. In addition to her passion of caring for kids she possessed a strong will and desire to keep her son Tommy's memory alive through his love of baseball and formed the Tommy Cramer All-Star Little League baseball tournament. Marie truly loved watching each and every player as they performed on the field, she enjoyed stories shared within the concession stand by parents and fans, and was touched by the passion and determination possessed by the coaches. Marie was forever grateful for each and every person who volunteered and made the tournament a success for 13 years. If you were blessed to know Marie then you know what an amazing, caring, beautiful, complete person she was throughout her entire life. She was a member of the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton. The family wishes to send their sincerest thanks and gratitude to Marie's external supports that have been so helpful, especially within the last couple months-Tom Cramer and Linda Quilty, Kim Foody and family, Michele Malick, Barb and Phil Nelson; many neighbors and countless others. We cannot express our appreciation for the abundance of support during these difficult times. Marie's family would also like to express their sincerest gratitude to her medical team Dr. Dalbagni and Dr. Bjorn at Sloan Kettering Cancer; Broome Oncology and Lourdes Radiation Oncology offices and Hospice Lourdes at home. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Marie may be made to the Marie Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Niagara Bank, 282 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905. We love you to the moon, stars, sun, clouds and to the depths of the deep blue sea!!
