Obituary of Iona Earley

After a long and fulfilling life Iona Egan Earley died peacefully Tuesday December 30, 2014 at the age of 101 years old surrounded by her children. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward F. Earley, Jr.; her parents, Mary Ellen (Kelly) and Patrick Egan; her brothers, Vincent, John, Harold, Donald, James, Matthew, Martin and Leo Egan; her sisters, Elizabeth Collins, Mary Daley and Kathryn Rood; and her sons in law, John M. McCarthy and James Kelleher. Iona was gentle and kindhearted woman of deep faith and caring. After graduation from high school she worked as a secretary at St. James Church until she married and began raising her children. She is survived by her eight children, Mary M. McCarthy, Sister Katharine Earley, C.S.J., Edward III and Karen Earley, Becky Earley and Jerry McKinney, Theresa and Tom Tiffany, Judy Kelleher, Margaret and Jonathan Smith, John and Sue Earley. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Christian, John, Kathryn, Ellen, Jennifer, Sarah, Lisa, Shannon, Edward, Christopher, Brian, Sean, Brittany, Daniel and Emily; great grandchildren, Aiden, Cormac, Liam, Kara, Alex, Rhianne, Maeve, Isabel and Kathryn. She was a member of the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton and the Altar-Rosary Society. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Friday from 4-7 p.m. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Development Fund of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 385 Watervaliet Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 or the Church of Saints John and Andrew, 7 Livingston St., Binghamton, NY 13903.
