Donald J. Smith, 88 of Endwell passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, November 24, 2014. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary Mahar Smith; his parents, Vincent J. and Kathryn Smith; brother, John V. Smith; his sister, Nancy Losier; granddaughter, Kristen and great-grandson, Cody. He is survived by his children, Michael and Anne Smith, Donna and Dr. William Nugent, James Smith, William and Margaret Smith, Kathryn Guiles, David and Jana Smith; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Shirley Sullivan, Karen and Richard Ritter; sisters-in-law, Peg Mahar and Beverly Smith; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton and the Holy Name Society. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Indiana. Don was Architect/Treasurer of Vincent J. Smith, Inc. General Contractors. He was a member of the Binghamton Country Club and the Atlantis Country Club. He was an avid golfer and pool player. The family wishes to thank CareGivers and the staff of Elizabeth Church Manor. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Don may be made to the Alzheimers Association, CNY Chapter, 401 Hayes Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
