Obituary of Joseph A. Reap

Joseph A. Reap, Sr., 93, of Binghamton, died Saturday, August 2, 2014, after a 10 year struggle with muscular dystrophy. He was born in Avoca, PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Rachel (Ingraham) Reap and a son, Joseph Reap Jr. He was also predeceased by three brothers, John, Arthur, and Martin Reap and three sisters, Josephine Eggleston, Helen Gallagher, and Mary M. Reap. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary C. and James View of Vestal and a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Anne Reap of Central Square. He is also survived by grandsons, James and Patrick View, Philip and Thomas Reap, and Joseph and James Reap; five great-grandchildren; sister, Juane R. Skinner; and many nieces and nephews. He attended North High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force as an airplane mechanic. After the war he went to work at IBM where he was employed for 36 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1645 and a past member of the Binghamton Elks and the Binghamton Moose Club. He was an avid NY Yankees fan and loved to attend his grandsons' sports activities. He was a member of the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Ave., Binghamton, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joe may be made to University of Rochester, PO Box 673 Neurology, Rochester, NY 13642 or Lourdes Hospital Foundation, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, NY 13905.
