Obituary of Marie J. Murray

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Murray had a great enthusiasm for life. At 85, the Binghamton native was always raring to go. If there was a card game, she was there. If it was the first Friday of the month, she was having lunch with her high school friends. If she had a friend performing, she was happy to cheer them on. She was naturally curious and loved to learn about the lives of those she met. She so enjoyed being with her large family and shared her strong and refreshing spirit with everyone right up until the end of this life. With her family surrounding her, Marie Murray joined her husband of 56 years, Chet Murray, in heaven on Saturday, March 29. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Walter McCarthy, Genevieve McCarthy Broderick and Bob Broderick; her brother, Walter McCarthy; as well as two sons-in-law, William Mozingo and Richard Cirzeveto. Marie is survived by her seven children, Kathleen Murray of Binghamton, Michael Murray of York, ME, Mary Beth (Arnold) Rauscher of Potsdam, NY, Pamela Cirzeveto (Tom Nezelek) of Little Meadows, PA, Patrick Murray of Tariffville, CT, Maureen Murray of Tyngsboro, MA, Anne Murray Mozingo (Denis O'Connor) of York, ME; five grandsons, Darin (Sabrina) Blizzard of Los Alamitos, CA, Karsten Murray of Seattle, WA, Nick Murray (Natasha Malle) of Endicott, Matthew Rauscher (Laticia Hequembourg) of Huntsville, AL, Jeremy Rauscher of Potsdam, NY, and William Wyatt Murray Mozingo of York, ME; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Dominica, Harper and Jack; her sister, Margaret and Tom Murray of Wilkes Barre, PA; and her sister-in-law, Judy McCarthy of Simsbury, CT. Marie was cherished by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marie and Chet raised seven children in Endwell, where they lived for more than 40 years. Marie enjoyed a long and successful career as a Realtor, starting out as a Sales Agent at Sheelen and Wells Gallery of Homes and growing into the role of Office Manager and Broker at Century 21 Sbarra and Wells. She was great at helping families find their dream homes. Marie was a member of the J.C. Elks Club, where she played cards every Friday night and was cared for by many with such kindness. Always a card shark, Marie appreciated her many card groups: Bridge Club, Poker Club and multiple Pitch leagues. She was always thrilled to play another hand. The family would like to thank all of her fellow card players who helped make it possible for her to play weekly right up until the week before she passed. Anyone who knew Marie had the pleasure of her long, infectious laugh, a testament to her ability to relax and enjoy life. Marie's life could stand as a reminder to keep those we love close in our hearts and have as much fun together as possible. Marie's family would like to thank the staff at Yesteryears for showering her with attention at the program in Binghamton and the compassionate staff at Lourde's Hospital, who professionally cared for Marie countless times, especially in the past week at ICU. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City, Monday at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Marie was quick to remind smokers that it was a good time to quit the habit that left her with multiple pulmonary diseases. In remembrance of Marie, those who wish may make contributions to the American Lung Association at: 1595 Elmwood Ave. Suite B, Rochester, NY 14620. Blessed we all have been to have had Marie Murray in our lives.
