Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert O. Allen, Jr. ("Hawkins") Age 81 of Chenango Bridge died Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Wilson Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Robert (DVM) and Helen (McTighe) Allen, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and David Rabert, and his Son, Robert O. Allen III. He was also predeceased by his former wife Judith Allen with whom he remained very close. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Mark Richard, his grandchildren, Mark (Amanda), Daniel, Zachary (Autumn), Deminica and Meghan Richard, Whitney (Jacob) Gallagher, Matthew (Cheyann) Allen and his great-grandchildren, Jacob, James, and John Gallagher. Also surviving are his sister, Patricia Winfield and brother and sister-in-law Dr. Christopher (DVM) and Mary Allen as well as his nieces and nephews. Robert was a graduate of Chenango Forks high school and Cobleskill Technical College where he earned a degree in agriculture. He was a member of the Chenango Bridge Volunteer Fire Department. He worked as a farmhand and shoed horses when he was young, and also worked alongside his father as a Veterinarian Assistant, fondly sharing stories of how he would hold calves so his father could give immunizations. He was a heavy equipment operator at Savin Bros. Inc., helping to build Interstate 88 in the 60s. He was a can cleaner at Crowley's in Binghamton, hauled milk for Ralph Byer Inc., and later became Transportation Supervisor for Chenango Forks Central School. He eventually started his own business hauling garbage and later sold that business to Bert Adams. Finally, he started R.O. Allen and Son in 1974 working alongside his son, Rob, until his untimely passing in 2017. One of his favorite things to do was drive around and "see what's going on". He also loved attending auctions and driving his Farmall and John Deere tractors which he'd purchased at those auctions. He loved a good diner where he could listen to the locals, a good home-cooked meal, Pepsi with lots of ice, ice-cream, and anything chocolate. He will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff of St. Louise Manor and Wilson Hospital for their loving care. At Robert's request, private services were held for the immediate family.
