Obituary of Marlene A. Mulcahy

Please share a memory of Marlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marlene Amelia (Buffum) Mulcahy, age 82, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. We mourn her loss and celebrate the life she lived and the imprint she left on our hearts. Marlene loved unconditionally, prayed unceasingly, and lived her life with joy and gratitude. She held a deep devotion to the rosary, and took every opportunity to attend daily mass. Her faith ran deep and she faced death without fear. Marlene was a talented seamstress, and crocheter. She loved swimming, camping, a good game of dominoes, and spending countless weekends at the family's camp, "No Problem" with her extended family. Marlene was raised in West Endicott, the oldest daughter of Leland and Ameila Buffum. She graduated from Seton High School and earned a degree in business from Broome Technical Community College. She was hired by General Electric as a secretary, where she met her lifelong love, Roy Mulcahy, who literally fell out of his chair trying to catch a glimpse of her. The couple moved briefly to Phoenix, Arizona, returning to Endicott after Roy was hired by IBM. They settled in Vestal where they made lifelong friends and raised six children. She enjoyed a long career at Lourdes Hospital in Quality Care Services, where she made dear friends. She also volunteered countless hours at Our Lady of Sorrows School and Church, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad, and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Roy, infant daughter, Renee, her parents, and recently, her daughter-in-law, Brooke Keil. She is survived by her six children, Roy P. Mulcahy, Eileen Mulcahy-LaChance (Timothy), Daniel Mulcahy, Colleen (Jamie) Eldred, Maureen (Jeffrey) Warren, Christine (Michael) Strawsky, 11 grandchildren, brothers George (Joanne) Buffum and Tommy Buffum, and sister, Gloria Seward as well as very special nieces, nephews, and friends. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Friday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760, a very special hospice house, whose staff cared for our mother with dignity and love.
