Francis J. "Crow" Gahagan Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Francis (Frank) James Gahagan, also known as 'Crow' to his many friends, on November 13th, 2024, at the age of 86. Frank was born on October 8th, 1938, in Binghamton, NY at General Hospital.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Gahagan and his sister Roseanne Gahagan. He is survived by his wife Clare; son Sean Gahagan, daughters Sharon Brennan and Susan Gahagan; daughter-in-law Kelly Gahagan, son-in-law Joseph Brennan, grandchildren Patrick Brennan, Katie Brennan, Grace Gahagan, Ryan Gahagan and Megan Brennan.
Frank was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and St. Bonaventure University, also earning a master's degree in education from Scranton University. He taught history and coached basketball in the Susquehanna School district for 34 years, serving as the boys' varsity basketball coach for 17 of those years. Frank was married to the love of his life, Clare Gahagan, for 59 wonderful years. Frank and Clare are members of Saints John & Andrew Catholic Church in Binghamton, NY. Frank's joys in life were spending time with his family, playing a round of golf or a game of cards with friends, and supporting his beloved 'Bonnies'. He was also a lifelong Yankee fan and was fortunate to see them play in one more World Series this past October. Frank was known for his quick-witted sense of humor, loyalty and living his life with integrity and principal. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and teacher who impacted so many lives in his eighty-six years. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and former students.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank's name to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC.org) or St. Jude's Children's Hospital (stjude.org).
A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Monday November 18, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Sunday November 17, 2024 from 1 to 3 p.m.
