Obituary of Karen E. O'Loughlin

Karen Elizabeth O'Loughlin (1939-2024) age 85, formerly of Binghamton, Syracuse and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died peacefully on October 31, 2024 at Elizabeth Church Manor, Binghamton, NY. Karen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Michelle O'Loughlin, Binghamton. Nephew Sean (Becky) O'Loughlin and niece Kathleen (Andy) Sears. Her nieces, Jennifer O'Loughlin and Hayley (Jason) Woodle. Also survived by great nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, William and Helen O'Loughlin and her brothers, William, Joseph and James O'Loughlin. Niece Heather O'Loughlin Green and Karen's Partner in Life, Nancy Mc Sweeney. Karen was a former Sister of St. Joseph of Carondolet, known as Sr. Helen William, and taught in the Syracuse and Utica areas for many years. Letters from former students revealed their love of her and her English and Literature classes. She eventually returned to lay life in the Syracuse area where she was employed as a business analyst for Mutual of New York before relocating to Florida. The family gratefully acknowledges her second families at Elderwood Assisted Living in Vestal and Elizabeth Church Manor where she received kind and compassionate care these last several years. Also special thanks to Cathy McGowan and Marlene West for their special visits to care for Karen's spiritual needs. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 10am at St Francis of Assisi Church, 1031 Chenango St. Hillcrest with visitation from 9-10am at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
