Obituary of Frederick E. Johnson

Frederick Earl Johnson, Sr. along with his twin sister, Fredericka Ann, was born June 24, 1941 to Tommie Lee and Naomi Johnson in Detroit, Michigan; Fred was one of twelve children. Fred knew Christ through his parents and Oak Grove A.M.E. Church. Fred attended Mumford H.S. in Detroit with his sweetheart, Sandra; who became his wife of 60 years. After graduating from high school, Fred attended Wayne State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Fred then went on to obtain his M.S.E.E. from Syracuse University after making New York his new home. A man of God, Fred was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church where he served on the Stewards Board and the Trinity A.M.E. Zion Memorial Fund. Among many things, Fred was the Broome County Urban League President, a member of the Broome County NAACP, and a member of the Iota Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Fred was a well-traveled man who worked for IBM based in Endicott, NY, as an engineer holding many different titles. After retiring in 1994, he joined the International Executive Services Corp. (USAID) in 1996. He and Sandra had extensive travels worldwide. Fred was also a house parent to many young men at the Susquehanna Valley Home in Binghamton, NY; as well a house parent and teacher at the Community Service Foundation in Doylestown, PA. He was a substitute teacher for Alternative School Programs in Binghamton, Johnson City, Vestal and Endicott N.Y. Fred was one who led by example. He touched everyone with his love, intelligence, strength and stability. He was blessed and led a full and fruitful life. On May 18, 2024, Fred went on to eternal life. He was preceded in death by Thomasine Freeman (sister), John E. Johnson (brother), Booker P. Johnson (Brother), Fredericka A. Johnson (sister), Timothy Johnson (brother) and Maurice Johnson (brother). Fred is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his siblings Naomi, Tommie (Joyce), Deidre, Madeline, and Kathryn. His sons, Frederick II (Patricia), Seth (Jayne). His grandchildren, Evan, Jade, Zachary, Justine and Xavier. Brother-in-Laws Lafayette Miller, Jr. (Jean), Perez Miller (Ruthie), as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will love and remember him always. Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday May 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Fred, may be made to the Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church Memorial Fund at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church 203 Oak St. Binghamton, NY 13905
