Obituary of Ruth J. McCormick

Ruth Joan McCormick, 93, of the Town of Binghamton passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024 at Mercy House of the Southern Tier. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Walter Barschdorf and Angela (Kuntscher), her husband of 60 years (February 12, 1955), Vincent DePaul McCormick, and her daughter, Eileen B. McCormick. She is survived by her son, Brendan P. McCormick and his wife Laura (Barba) of Palmyra, VA; six granddaughters, Kelsey H. Cho of Raleigh, NC, Emily F. of Palmyra, VA, Krista J. of Raleigh, NC, Elizabeth G. Shackelford of Virginia Beach, VA, Elianna X. and Kaitlin TH., who are living at home. Ruth is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Ruth was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School, Class of 1948. She was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Ruth was a housewife and worked briefly at IBM and Endicott Johnson Corporation. She enjoyed reading, knitting, cooking, meeting with friends and family, and travelling to new places. Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday May 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. Rev. Msgr Michael T. Meagher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Monday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Ruth may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
