Obituary of Maria Petrakos

Petrakos, Maria (Papastratis) Binghamton: Maria (Papastratis) Petrakos, 75, born in Sparta, Greece on January 6, 1939, went to be with the Lord on Thursday February 20, 2014 after a 31 year battle with Muscular Dystrophy. She was predeceased by her parents, Constantinos Papastratis and Sophia (Kalkanis) Papastratis and four brothers George, Harry, Peter and Andy. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Stavros (Steve) Petrakos; her only daughter, Eleni French (Jim); three grandchildren she loved very very much, Stavroula, Gabriel and Alexis. We miss and love you Yiayia! She is also survived by her brother, Dimitrios (Cheryl) Papastratis; two sisters in law; many nephews and nieces; four great grandchildren, Ava, Niccias, Lilah and Dakota. Maria loved her flower and vegetable gardening, and her faith in the Greek Orthodox Religion. She was a longtime member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Vestal. Funeral Services will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 4121 O'Hara Drive, Vestal, Monday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at the Church, Monday from 12 noon until time of services. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association , 601 Gates Road, Vestal, NY 13850 in Maria Petrakos memory.
