Obituary of Kathleen A. Luberecki

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen Ann Heath Luberecki, 86, died unexpectedly on January 5th, 2024. She suffered from dementia for over 6 years. She was born in Binghamton, New York and remained in this area for her whole life. She is predeceased by her parents, Madeline Carns Heath and Perry Heath; her sister, Betty Hollenbeck (Jerry); and her brothers, John and Francis Heath. She is survived by her three sons: Timothy (Kelley), Chris, and Greg (Valerie) and her three grandchildren: Gabriel, Ryland, and Ethan. She is also survived by her cousin, Madeline Lessler, as well as other cousins, nieces, and nephews. She graduated from Binghamton Central and SUNY Cortland. She started as an elementary teacher at Hooper School in Endwell and became a remedial reading teacher, mainly at Homer Brink, but she also taught at J. Ralph Ingalls, and Maine Memorial. After she "retired" from teaching, she continued to substitute teach in the Maine Endwell school district, and taught in that district in some capacity for 50 years. An innumerable number of students who initially found it difficult to read can do so because she took the time to assist them on a one-on-one basis. She made many friends among her colleagues in education with whom she remained friends even after she retired from teaching. She was a kind and generous person. She remained active in the Church until she was no longer able to do so. Her family would like to thank her in-home caregivers, the staff at Willow Point and Lourdes Hospital, and especially, Sister Hermie from Saint Thomas Aquinas. She always had a special relationship with her four Hollenbeck nephews: Pat (Margaret), Mike (LeeEllen), Tom (Priscilla), and John (Kate). The family takes comfort that she is reunited with her other independent women, her mother and her sister - her best friend and partner in crime. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton, Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday, from 9:30a.m. to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, in memory of Kathleen.
