Obituary of Doreen P. Blakesley

Doreen P. (Madison) Blakesley, formerly of Afton and Binghamton, NY died Saturday December 9, 2023 at the Colorado State Assisted Living Veterans Center at Fitzsimons near Denver, CO at the age of 91. Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, James, her mother, Anne Madison, her brother, James Madison, brother-in-law Ronald Guinane and her son, John Blakesley. She is survived by her children, Bob Blakesley, Debbora Blakesley, Mary and Kerry Kleissle, Teresa and Dean Barnett, Jim and Jean Blakesley, Thomas Blakesley, Michael Blakesley, Cathy Stahl, Fran Blakesley, Stephanie and Jim Rooney; 21 grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and one great great grandson; her sister, Anne Guinane; sister-in-law Hannah Madison; several nieces and nephews. Doreen graduated from Binghamton Central High School '50. Doreen was a former member of St. James Church, Johnson City, having been baptized and married in the parish. She was a guild member of St. John the Evangelist and St. Agnes Mission Church in Afton and welcomed many missionaries into her home. Doreen was a member of the NYS Right to Life Committee and an active supporter of Catholic Charities. Doreen was a devoted Third Order Carrmelite whose devotion focused on Contemplation, Community and Service. She along with her husband had a special bond with their Marriage Encounter group. Doreen also enjoyed reading, painting and traveling to spend time with her family. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, Friday January 5th, 2024 at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A.
