Ann Marie Donovan, 89, of Johnson City, NY, passed away on November 9, 2023. Ann Marie was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Jerome "Jay" Donovan, her parents Henry and Winifred Costello, her sister and brother in-law Mary and Harold Heaton, and her brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Margot Costello. She is survived by her children Michael and Jennifer Donovan, Catherine and Michael Haas, and Suzanne Donovan, and her beloved grandchildren, Jeremy Donovan, Erin Donovan, Dr. Katie and Dr. David Pompeani, Brian and Jessica Haas, Keenan Hall, and Brynn Hall, and several nieces and nephews. Ann Marie graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1952 where she was the proud captain of the cheerleading team. She worked numerous jobs throughout life, retiring from the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin after 15 years as manager of the Circulation Dept. She grew up next door to St. Paul's Church, Binghamton, NY, and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Johnson City, NY, for 50 years where she was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the hand bell choir and an active volunteer. In her later years she was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Ann Marie was known for her love of her Irish heritage, her strong Catholic faith, and her love of her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Ireland, Italy, and to the Kentucky Derby. Most of all, she loved her home, the center of her universe, and the site of so many wonderful celebrations with friends and family for 62 years. Every Sunday meant lunch at "Grandma's house" where her door was open to all. She was famous for her toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, macaroni salad, meatballs, and Christmas Eve lasagna. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton, on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by her nephew and godson, Rev. John Donovan, and close friend Rev. Timothy Taugher. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Sunday November 19, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ann Marie's memory to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas St, Binghamton, NY, 13905 or to a charity of your choice.
