Obituary of David J. Dixon

It is with great sadness the family of David J. Dixon, age 89, of Hillcrest NY announce his passing. David died peacefully at home on November 5th, 2023. David was born in Susquehanna PA to Fenton Cicero Dixon and Elizabeth Seamans Dixon on March 29, 1934.
David graduated from Penn State University as a Political Science major and The State University of New York at Albany with his Master's in Education. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Lambda and Pi Sigma Alpha. To commence his professional career, David began his work for the Chenango Valley School district where he taught European, American and Russian History; AP American and AP European History for 30+ years. David retired as the Social Studies Department Chairman.
David also had a 28 year career in the United States Army Reserves retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983. David attended the Command & General Staff 2091st USAR School at Fort Leavenworth and participated in the Inspector General Team, 79th ARCOM. He was a member of Scabbard & Blade, Society of American Military Engineers and the Reserve Officers Association.
David loved and was committed to his community in many ways including membership and leadership. He was on the Board of Directors for the Hillcrest Community Association, Broome County Historical Society and Roberson Center for the Arts and Sciences. David was Vice President of Hillcrest-Port Dickinson Kiwanis and President of Chenango Valley Student Educational Fund.
David was an inveterate and passionate antique and coin collector. His pride and joy was the restoration of a Greek Revival house. It is here where friends and family were always welcomed to visit and enjoy a social drink, or two.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Susan (McGinnis) Dixon and children John and wife Elizabeth Dixon of Raleigh, North Carolina and Margaret and husband Justin Levy of Congers, New York; grandchildren Rebecca Margaret Dixon, Hillary Amanda Levy, Kathryn Keane Dixon, Harrison David Levy, Abigail Maeve Levy, David Nicholas Dixon, Alexandra Suzanne Levy and Anderson John Levy.
David enjoyed his trips to Europe, The Outer Banks and the family cottage at Foxton Lake. Many wonderful memories will be cherished by the family. We thank David for all he did and will miss him dearly. Here's to a life well lived and a job well done.
Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday November 14, 2023 at 3 p.m. Rev. David C. Seaver will officiate. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making random kind gestures to others. We give thanks to a life kindly given and graciously lived.
