Obituary of Marie M. Basile

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Martha Basile (née Renz) 85 passed away peacefully at her home on August 20, 2023. Marie was predeceased by her adoring and devoted husband of 56 years, Chris, her parents Eugene and Johanna Renz, and her older brother Eugene Renz. Marie is survived by her two loving daughters Rita (Katie) Basile, and Maria (Kevin) Humphreys, and her pride and joy, her three grandchildren Maryn, Michael, and Maeve Basile. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis Renz and Randy Grissom, Ben (Mary) O'Neil, and Dottie Renz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her adopted daughters. Marie was born on September 3, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA, to German immigrant parents who owned a successful bakery in South Philadelphia. It was there she worked as a shop girl and helped raise her baby brother, Francis. During this time she developed her deep sense of family, work ethic, and never say never attitude. Marie graduated from Immaculata College in 1959 and then went on to get her Master's Degree in Mathematics from Villanova University in 1965. The first Villanova graduate in the family at a time when women could only attend nursing school or graduate school at Villanova. She worked for Boeing and helped develop the programming for the Apache helicopter. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Chris. Their first date was Christmas Eve Mass 1964. They were later married on May 21st, 1966. In 1976 Marie and Chris relocated to Apalachin, NY where Chris worked for IBM and Marie stayed home to raise their daughters. In 1980 Marie went back to work at IBM as a computer programmer, retiring in 2000 after 20 years of service. It was Marie who encouraged Chris to go to Rochester, MN to work for IBM as a consultant. This was when God placed CL Keene, his daughter Mary Kathryn Book and their entire family into his and Marie's life. From that first coffee in a Styrofoam cup, our families became a lifelong family. Marie was affectionately given her southern nickname, Miss Marie. This name was given to her for her grace, quiet strength, warmth, and openness to accepting others into her life which is what set Marie apart. Her door was always open and it was never a problem to add another plate for dinner. An avid skier and active member of her church, Marie dedicated nearly most of her free time to her family from coaching soccer and running the CCD program at church, to being president of the PTA. She was a constant presence at every event in which her daughters participated. When she wasn't cheerleading for her family she enjoyed ballroom dancing, hosting dinner parties, traveling, and cruising the world with Chris and their close friends. Some of whom Marie and Chris made during their travels. We would like to thank Marie's caregivers, Sadie, Brittany, and Angel, and the Lourdes Hospice team, particularly Carli, Ashley, Brittani, Lauren, and Courtney. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Jody, who lived with and cared for Marie these past 10 months so compassionately and lovingly and who was a constant source of care at Marie's side as she completed her journey to the Lord and to her beloved Chris. Words cannot express how appreciative Marie's entire family is for your love and support. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final journey of Faith, and when she was reunited with her beloved Chris in Heaven. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Marie's name to St. John the Evangelist School, Binghamton, NY, Lourdes Hospice, or the Parkinson's Foundation.
